Fit Fiji Sevens Team for Port Elizabeth

VODAFONE Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan says his 12-member squad for the Dubai and Port Elizabeth tournaments is much fitter than the winning HSBC Sevens World Series Gold Coast team.

Ryan named his final side on Saturday 22 November, whereby he retained nine players from the Gold Coast tournament which includes skipper Osea Kolinisau, Isake Katonibau, Apisai Domolailai, Apisalome Waqatabu, Isake Katonibau, Jasa Veremalua, Savenaca Rawaca, Semi Kunatani, Seremaia Tuwai and Vatemo Ravouvou.

The evergreen Nasoni Roko, Ratu Filise’s playmaker Amenoni Nasilasila and Yamacia’s strongman Jone Qorovarua completes the squad.

Roko makes a return after missing a few seasons and Nasilasila will be keeping his fingers crossed that injury will not drag his Fiji 7s debut after missing out on the Gold Coast event at the eleventh hour.

Qoro who was part of the Oceania winning team will hope to continue his fine form in Dubai and Port Elizabeth tournaments.

Ryan said he had selected a good team following some tough training sessions this week at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour.

Veteran Roko and Qorovarua will fight for the hooker’s position while Nasilasila will give Ravouvou, Tuwai and Kolinisau another tough selection in the playmaker’s role.

"I’m happy with the blend, we got a mince mix of players who can play a number of positions," Ryan said.

"It’s good team, got strength everywhere really. Its been tight selection and it’s certainly a lot harder than it was in Gold Coast when I selected the squad."

Ryan revealed that the fitness result was an average of 20 on the yoyo test. He said the Gold Coast side had an average of 19 on the test.

"The fitness level is significantly higher than the team that went to Gold Coast. We’re working very hard to get things better and we all believe in better and getting better everyday."

Fiji is drawn in Pool A with France, Argentina and Brazil at the Dubai tournament which kicks off on December 5.
