KIMBERLEY – The Northern Cape Provincial SAPS, Senior Managers , Major General Henriette De Waal, Major General Koliswa Otola and Brigadier Joyce Ramaru took the lead and commanded a static road block on the N12 South in Kimberley today as part of the build-up programme of the 50th year celebration of Women in the South African Police Service.

The build-up programme coincides with the 16 Days of Activism awareness campaign. The Northern Cape Provincial Traffic Officers formed part of the static road block, to ensure that fines were issued for unroadworthy vehicles and drivers who were driving on the national road without valid driver’s licences.

The operational focus of the road block was to stop and search vehicles to ensure that those who were transporting illegal or stolen goods, such as illegal firearms or stolen livestock, face the full might of the law. Kimberley Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit inspected possible reported stolen vehicles. While the Immigration Officers from the Department of Home Affairs focused on possible undocumented persons.

During the road block more than two hundred and forty (240) vehicles were stopped and searched; more than three hundred and seventy persons were searched (370); two taxi drivers were issued with fines for overloading.

One taxi was overloaded with thirty one (31) leaners while the other one over loaded with thirty two learners.

Traffic fines to the value of nine thousand and seven hundred rand (R9700) was also issued.
