Fifth annual Stokvel Day draws more than 1000 members to event:

Port Elizabeth, 16 November 2016 – Afri-Save Cash and Carry hosted more than 1400 stokvel members from Nelson Mandela Bay, at its fifth annual Stokvel Day event, themed the Big Five in Uitenhage.

The Afri-Save Stokvel Day aimed to uplift, empower and acknowledge the importance of the stokvel community. Guest speakers also included Nelson Mandela Bay deputy mayor Mongameli Bobani, on Saturday, 5 November.

The National Stokvel Association of SA (Nasasa) revealed that collectively the stokvel economy is an estimated R49 billion in South Africa.  Nationally there are more than 11,5m individual stokvel members, belonging to over 811 000 groups.

“Stokvels are growing in popularity and these businesses run on a daily basis in South Africa and forms an integral part of the economic mainstream. We established our Afri-Save Stokvel Day five years ago and this is growing annually.”

The Afri-Save Stokvel team which provides an administrative service, networks with stokvel members to determine their needs, and then assist by meeting these needs.

STOKVEL MEMBERS GROWING: More than 1400 stokvel members attended the fifth annual Afri-Save Cash and Carry Stokvel Day in Uitenhage.

“The Afri-Save Stokvel team identified what these stokvel members needed and we have then themed the event around these needs, the Big Five. We then offered these five items for free to all the stokvel members. These were free transport to and from the event; free breakfast; free lunch; and free gift bags.”

Nonsipho Makula said: “I have been purchasing from Afri-Save for a long time now and always look forward to the Stokvel day.”

“I am really happy they offered the free transport to and from the Stokvel day. This helped when I bought purchases and needed to go home after the event,” said Asanda Siphokazi.

The day also included a  tour of the store, showcasing Afri-Save’s variety of products of well over 30000 line items ranging from groceries, cosmetics, hardware, plastic ware, perishable items and  the fully fledged Afri-Save Butchery where a specialized Butchery Stokvel hamper of meats was showcased highlighting the best quality and pricing. Product activations, alternate more affordable product marketing and brand awareness was displayed. There were also lucky draws of sizeable hampers.
