Port Elizabeth, July 18 – Coca-Cola Beverages SA staff put their hearts into packing food for charity on Mandela Day today.
About 40 CCBSA employees from the bottler’s factories in Lakeside and Perseverance left bright and early for the FoodForward SA warehouse in Port Elizabeth to pack food parcels for people in need.
The non-profit organization distributed 17.6 million meals last year, feeding 250 000 people as part of its mission to reduce hunger by sourcing quality food and making it available to those who need it.
Mandela himself famously remarked that “Freedom is meaningless if people cannot put food in their stomachs”.
“Giving a little of our time to bring relief to those who would otherwise go hungry is the least we can do to repay the huge sacrifice Madiba made to secure our freedom,” said CCBSA Corporate Social Investment Specialist for the Eastern and Western Cape, Buseka Adonis.
“Madiba’s wish was that we should all strive to make the world a better place and this day is our chance to do something concrete for our fellow South Africans.
“CCBSA encourages its employees to volunteer for charity work because we believe the future of our company is tied to the future of the communities who enjoy our products,” said Adonis.
CCBSA staff around the country got stuck in to assist non-profit organisations on Mandela Day, rolling up their sleeves for tasks from painting and maintenance work to packing food parcels.
