Music lovers are in for a rare treat when acclaimed British saxophonist Andrew Young, an international recording artist and performer, takes to the stage at the Savoy Theatre in Port Elizabeth this week-end. Young, who will perform at the Savoy Theatre on Sunday as part of his South African tour, began his musical training at the age of eight with clarinet and saxophone lessons. After completing his music studies in London, Young moved to Germany to pursue his desire for a broader and more eclectic involvement in all genres of music. Now back in Britain, he has performed as a soloist with many symphony orchestras – and in concerts alongside pop/jazz and funk luminaries such as Matt Blanco and the Precious Wilson Band, and has received rave reviews worldwide.
An invitation to perform in South Africa saw him collaborate with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic and also the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, and soon he became involved in the crosscurrents of South African and international music, meeting and being invited to perform with artists such as Joseph Shabalala (Ladysmith Black Mambazo), Jonathan Butler, Shakatak, Shirley Bassey, James Gallway and others.Young’s debut album Soul People, a synergy of forces with BMG and top producer Dennis East, topped the SA charts twice and was nominated five times for the SA Music Awards.
His soulful rendition of classic love songs elicits a wave of emotion from even the most stoic listener. One simply has to listen to the hauntingly beautiful What a Wonderful World, Unforgettable or any of his original compositions to realize his complete mastery of the saxophone.
To add to this delight, local singer and songwriter Faye Gatley has been invited to perform with Andrew.

In addition to Faye’s solo career, she is also part of the award winning band Faye Gatley and the Soloflares combining elements of rock, soul and folk.
No stranger to the Savoy stage Faye initially made a name for herself in theatre circles in the Eastern Cape and has enjoyed lead roles in productions including Thoroughly Modern Millie and Oklahoma.
Andrew Young’s AN INTIMATE AFFAIR which features his virtuoso Saxophone playing including amongst others, soulful renditions of classic love-songs such as What A Wonderful World and Unforgettable is promised to elicit a wave of emotion from even the most stoic listener.
