Father Murphy was instrumental in the building of St Augustine’s Cathedral, Port Elizabeth and St Patrick’s, Grahamstown.

At the foot of White’s Road, Father Murphy erected a two-storey building which served the combined purposes of Chapel, School and Presbytery. It was from here that Father Murphy started the second great enterprise of his life – the building of St Augustine’s Church, St Patrick’s Hall and a fine school for girls destined to become Holy Rosary Convent.
