Both the PE Music Society and the Feather Market Organ Society boast with interesting and varied concert schedules for 2025. Focusing on different music genres, the two Societies aim to bring music of a high calibre to organ and classical music lovers in Gqeberha. The concerts are spread out over the year.
The Feather Market Organ Society (FMOS) uses the Feather Market Centre (FMC) with its majestic organ, the Summerstrand Church with its colourful organ, as well as St Mary’s Cathedral for their 9 concerts. Prof Albert Troskie (concert organiser and secretary of the FMOS) made sure that both South African and internationally acclaimed organists will be heard.
The first concert is on Wednesday, 5 March at 13h00 in the FMC with Humansdorp organist, Cassie Carstens. On Wednesday 26 March, a very special event will take place at 11h00 in the FMC. The bi-annual Open Day for Schools, with its goal to introduce the organ and classical music to learners, will once again be an unforgettable experience for a hall full of school kids. Sunday, 27 April is a date to highlight as the famous English organist, Jonathan Scott, will perform at 15h00 in the FMC.
Over the past few years, the Soirée Musicales, which are collaborations between the FMOS and the PEMS, became very popular. With the aim to use local talent, they will once again capture audiences on Wednesday, 14 May and Wednesday, 15 October. Both concerts will start at 18h00 in the Summerstrand Church. Celebrating its 200 th anniversary, St. Mary’s Cathedral will host two concerts at 15:00 in St Mary’s Cathedral on Sunday, 29 June with Johannesburg organist, Cameron Upchurch, and Sunday, 17 August with Makhanda organist, Cameron Luke.
The last two concerts of the year will take place on Sunday, 9 November at 15h00 in the FMC where Italian organist, Salvatore Pronesti, will perform. Then as usual, the year will end with the very popular Christmas Concert on Sunday, 30 November at 15h00 in the FMC.
