Eric Spencer Organ Concert

The Feather Market Organ Society invited ERIC SPENCER, well-known in Port Elizabeth, and now living in Cape Town, to come and play some lovely organ music for us. He immediately accepted and will entertain you on Thursday, 21 September at the Feather Market Centre, with a varied programme on the imposing Feather Market organ. We’re sure he would also like to meet his old PE friends after the concert.

Eric grew up in England, where he also received his organ tuition. Until his retirement, he was organist and Director of Music of St. Peter’s Church in Brighton. In April 2003, he moved to South Africa and became Director of Music and Organist of St. Mary’s Cathedral, in PE, a position he held for six years. Here he played a leading role as church musician. He was also Chairman of the Feather Market Organ Society, and gave a very successful recital on the Feather Market organ on 30th October 2007. At present, he is still active as deputy organist of Cape Town’s St. George’s Cathedral.

Eric’s attractive programme on 21 September, includes a variety of lovely works, such as Bach’s Fantasia, Herbert Howells’s Master Tallis’s Testament, the Trumpet Tune of Fred Swann, Paul Manz’s Aria, the Prelude in Classic Style by Gordon Young, and more.

Admission is only R 35 and for pensioners R 30. No entrance fee for learners and students. Invite your friends to join you for an enjoyable 50 minutes of organ music. Coffee as well as the new CD of the Feather Market organ will be on sale @ R70.
