EP Senior Amateur golf results played at Hankey Golf Course 14th August 2011

A wet and rainy day greeted the golfers as they made their way to Hankey Golf Club for the 6th 2011, Order of Merit Competition. Luckily for the golfers, the rain abated with minutes to spare, as the Seniors made their ways to their respective tee’s for a shotgun start at 10h00.
At the stroke of ten the familiar “pings” could be heard resounding around the golf course as the 50 golfers started their rounds of golf.
The rain stayed away for most of the round, bar two three minute light showers that passed overhead and playing conditions were near perfect. As in true spirit of the Senior Amateurs, laughter could be heard around the course with the occasional curse as a easy putt was missed or a wayward drive found its way into the river. The young locals standing the bank on the opposite side of the river, shouting their encouragement to the golfers on the 8th tee with a  “Slat die bal Larnie, slat hom hard”, followed by a cackle of laughter, added to the atmosphere to a really pleasant day of golf.  Hankey Club, true to form complimented each 4 ball with a plate of delicious snacks after a warm shower and a few drinks at the bar while we waited to scores to be tallied.
Seniors amateurs made up from Clubs as far as Cradock made this trip to play in this Order of Merit match (OOM) Tournament, with points counting toward the year end results.After the end of the year’s matches, a  team will be chosen to represent the East Cape in National tournaments.
The competition is made up of three classes, A: up to 9 handicap, who play stroke play. Class B, from 10 to 15 and Class C, from 16 and higher. These two classes play an individual Stableford format.

Class Winners of the Hankey Golf Day:

Class A:

1st: D Smith from Zwartenbosch Golf Club on 75 gross.
2nd: Doc de Kock from Humewood Golf Club on 76 gross.
3rd: H Potgieter from Kirkwood Golf Club on 76 gross.

Class B :

1st: D Nel from Walmer Golf Club with 37 Points.
2nd: I Hilder from Walmer Country Club  with 36 points.
3rd: M Verral from P.E. Golf Club on 36 points.

Class C :

1st: Wessel Moolman from Walmer Golf Club on 38 points.
2nd: N van det Westhuizen from Shark River golf Club on 33 points.
3rd: A Cloete from Cradock Golf Club on 32 points.

The only requiremnts are that you must be a paid up member at any Golf Club in the Eastern Province, must have an official handicap and be over 50 years of age.
