EP New Chess Champions

After many years of seeing the championship slip away from them, EP came out champions at the 2011 Inter Union Championships held in Durban at the Durban North Primary School over the weekend 5 to 8 August 2011. It was a tightly contested event with EP edging through only in the final round, taking the title from 11 time winners Western Province.

The hosts of this years tournament, Kwazulu-Natal were rewarded for their excellent organisation and catering with a 1st place in the B Division.

As one of the fastest growing sports in the country that transcends all barriers, it is time the sponsors note that chess is the only sport where discrimination is impossible as all players are equal before the board, where juniors can play seniors and the disabled compete equally.
