Empowering Women in Maritime: SAIMI Launches Second Cohort of Accelerated Development Programme

[Gqeberha, 21 February 2024] – The South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI) proudly announces the launch of the second cohort of the Accelerated Development Programme for Women in Maritime Leadership, commencing on Monday 26 February 2024. Spearheaded by SAIMI in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Business School, this initiative is part of the Imbokodo in Maritime Transformation Programme aimed at promoting gender equality and empowerment within the maritime sector.

The Accelerated Development Programme for Women in Maritime Leadership (ADPW) was inaugurated in October 2022 as a key component of the Imbokodo in Maritime Transformation Agenda. Building upon the success of the inaugural cohort, this program represents a pivotal step forward in our commitment to advancing women’s leadership in maritime.

Designed to address the pressing need for gender diversity and inclusion within the industry, the ADPW programme seeks to equip women leaders with the necessary skills, insights, and strategies to thrive in today’s dynamic maritime landscape. The programme comprises modules ranging from women in leadership to strategic management, all tailored to empower delegates to navigate the complexities of 21st-century leadership effectively.
The second cohort of the ADPW programme consists of a total of 19 officials, comprising 6 from the inaugural cohort and 13 new in takes. The programme will be offered in face-to-face sessions, with the first block release session scheduled for February 2024.

The ADWP is one of the initiatives through which SAIMI aims to pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous maritime industry, one where women’s voices are heard, valued, and empowered to effect positive change.
