Eight arrested during special Kwazakele operations

KWAZAKELE: The SAPS continues the clampdown on illegal firearms and stolen property. In the past 12 hours, twelve (12) suspects were arrested for illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of stolen goods.

This follows after special operations were conducted by the Motherwell Operational Command Centre (OCC), the Motherwell Cluster Serious Violent Crime Unit as well as the Kwazakele Crime Prevention Unit.

In the first incident a White Toyota Avanza was searched on the M17 road, Kwazakele at 19:30. Four (4) suspects (aged 22 -28) were arrested after a .22 with 4 rounds ammunition was found in the vehicle.

Shortly after, the OCC members chased a suspicious white VW Golf on the M17 after it failed to stop when the members signaled it to pull over. A short chase ensued to Njoli Square where it was pulled over and searched. Four (4) suspects (aged 26 – 30) were arrested after a suspected stolen plasma TV was found with them in the vehicle.

Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie has applauded these arrests and added that “crimes committed with fire arms as well as possession of stolen property will continue to have the focus of SAPS”

All the suspects will be appearing before the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Monday 22 January 2018 on their respective charges of illegal possession of unlicensed fire arms and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.
