A Uitenhage derby at Rosedale and an attempt by Spring Rose to make it an all-Eastern Province final will be the key features when the semifinals of the Eastern Cape Super 12 rugby competition are played on Saturday, March 12.
Champions East London Police will be putting their title on the line when they come up against EP team Spring Rose in what should be a serious battle for supremacy.
The Border team ruled the roost in last year’s competition, defeating Gardens in the final.
This year, though, they have not quite achieved the same supremacy, losing a pool match to Gardens. However, their experience in playoff matches will test Spring Rose to the full and they will also be determined to retain some Border interest in the competition.
Counting against them is that they must travel to New Brighton in Nelson Mandela Bay to advance and Spring Rose will be aiming to capitalise on home-ground advantage.
Gardens, meanwhile, were the most impressive of the semifinal winners last Saturday, but were up against arguably the weakest team in the last eight in Breakers.
They beat the Komani side easily, but will not be able to rest on their laurels against Uitenhage rivals Progress at Rosedale on Saturday.
It should be a cracking affair, full of passion, against two sides who will be well matched and a focus on discipline and eliminating unforced errors will be the key as to who advances to the final.
