East London Triathletes Tops in PE Triathlon

Ladies undefeated champion – Liza Kingston

Two of SA’s top triathletes from East London claimed the top two spots in the first round of the About IT Triathlon Summer Series held in ideal and hot conditions on Tuesday morning in Port Elizabeth.

Round 1 victor and defending Series champion was SA’s top under 18 triathlete Nathan Le Roux, with fellow Border team mate Clinton Gravett just 5 seconds off the pace.

The popular 3 race sprint distance triathlon Series which takes place in Port Elizabeth and St Francis Bay attracted over 100 triathletes from around the world when they tackled the PE to Schoenies stage of the triathlon which saw participants undertaking a 750m at Pollok Beach, a 20km cycle to Schoenmakerskop and a tough 5km trail run along the Sacramento Trail.

Le Roux, just 17 years of age and SA’s leading under 18 triathlete and silver medalist at the 2014 Africa Youth Games, won in a fast time of 1hour 6min with Gravett, a silver medalist at the SA Championships in March and also top SA Surfer, finishing just 5 seconds later with PE’s 17 year old Keegan Cooke excelling to finish in 3rd place in a time of 1 hour 11 minutes.

PE’s top local female triathlete, Liza Kingston, remains unbeaten in the Series as she kicked off her 2014 defence of the crown with a fantastic win in a star studded field of over 40 ladies. Kingston, who has never lost a Series race in over 4 years, finished just over 3 minutes ahead of German triathlete Katharina Lieb with PE’s Alexia Loizou in 3rd place and former PE triathlete Jade Hooke in 4th place. Hooke, a professional show jumper based in the UK, is visiting her family over the December holidays.

The 2nd round of the About IT Triathlon Summer Series takes place this Sunday morning starting at 8am at Pollok Beach (registration opens 6.45) with a Kids development triathlon taking place at 6pm on Saturday evening (registration opens 5pm) for children between the ages of 8 years and 15 years. Whilst a once off Series registration is recommended on www.triSummerSeries.co.za, late entries are possible on race day but late entry fees will apply.
