Property Network has welcomed the re-appointment of Bryan Chaplog as chief executive of the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB), the statutory consumer protection body of the property industry.
“We feel that in unraveling the mess that is current the EAAB, some continuity is needed and Mr Chaplog’s re-appointment will provide the stability that will be required to ensure that the management and administrative challenges are met,” said Colin Fibiger, director of Property Network
“As Estate Agencies, we are yet to feel the positive spin off after the board was placed under administration last year by then human settlements minister Tokyo Sexwale”, said Fibiger. “To date we have no clarity on the results of the probe into the EAAB’s affairs by the Special Investigating Unit as requested by Human Settlements Minister, Tokyo Sexwale.’
Property Network hopes that the re-appointment of officials to key positions will result in corrective measures actualy seeing the light of day and begin to filter through to the daily administrative functions of the body.
“The EAAB is regularly in the spotlight because of allegations of mismanagement and the latter cases of embezzlement due to the packages allegedly paid to former chief executive Nomonde Mapetla and former senior managers,” he said, “and we call upon the EAAB chairman Kwandile Kondlo to show both the industry as well as the public that he is indeed serious about his endeavours to become a world-class regulator.”
