Dreyer Linen Readies Festive Tablecloths and Towels

8 October 2026 By Alan Straton Leave a Comment

Spring is deepening across South Africa, and for the country’s hotels, lodges, guest houses and conference venues that shift in the calendar signals the approach of their heaviest trading period. Year-end functions, the wedding season and the December holidays land almost on top of one another, often within the space of a few weeks. With that crunch in view, Dreyer Linen is urging hospitality operators to sort out their table, bed and bath linen now, well ahead of the frantic run-in to the festive season.

A family-owned enterprise, Dreyer Linen manufactures, wholesales and retails towels, bed linen, duvet inners, blankets, protectors, tablecloths and napkins. What sets it apart among hotel linen suppliers in South Africa is its heritage: Hans Dreyer founded the firm in 1955, and three generations of the Dreyer and Blumenau family have run it since.

Why October is the month to plan

October tends to be the final easy stretch for placing orders before the year wraps up. This is when corporate clients pencil in their year-end lunches and dinners, couples settle their spring and summer wedding dates, and families commit to their December getaways. Every one of those bookings leans harder on the linen cupboard. A banquet calls for fresh tablecloths and napkins at each sitting, a fully booked property needs backup sheet sets to turn rooms around fast, and a busy pool deck chews through towels day after day.

Placing an order early buys a venue the time to audit its stock, swap out tired pieces and confirm that new deliveries match what is already on the shelf. It equally affords the supplier room to fulfil larger orders properly rather than in a hurry. Dreyer Linen runs high-capacity linen factories in Gauteng, which the company says lets it take on high-volume orders with ease while keeping turnaround times tight.

Table linen for the function season

Though tablecloths and napkins are often an afterthought in a linen plan, they rank among the first details a guest registers at any function. Dreyer Linen stocks hotel quality tablecloths and napkins both in plain colours and in classic jacquards. The plain colours let venues style a room to suit any event, whereas jacquard weaves bring texture to grander occasions such as gala dinners and wedding receptions.

Since the same tables can be set and cleared several times in a single December week, keeping enough sets in circulation to cover the laundry cycle counts for just as much as how the cloth looks. Order now, and a venue can establish a rotation sturdy enough to carry it through the season.

Bed linen built for hospitality use

For the accommodation side of the business, the company’s hospitality linen range takes in duvet covers, pillowcases, flat sheets and fitted sheets in 200 TC, 300 TC and 400 TC hospitality percale. A plain weave with a crisp, cool hand, percale is well matched to the warmer months that lie ahead across much of the country. Also in the range are 100% cotton percale fitted sheets, polycotton Oxford duvet cover sets and Egyptian cotton cover sets for properties after a more premium bed.

Duvet inners come with either natural or synthetic fillings, and the company stocks a selection of soft, lightweight hotel quality blankets as well. With summer on the way, plenty of properties trade their heavy winter layers for lighter alternatives, and a light blanket folded at the foot of the bed leaves guests an option for the cooler nights.

Protecting what is already on the bed

High-occupancy months take their toll on mattresses and pillows. Dreyer Linen provides both waterproof and non-waterproof protectors, among them quilted hospitality mattress protectors, waterproof towelling mattress protectors and pillow protectors. According to the company, protectors extend the working life of pillows and mattresses, a practical investment for any property bracing for a packed holiday season. Mattress toppers and suede bed wraps complete the bedding accessories on offer.

Towels for rooms and pool decks

Summer draws guests outside, and towels register that demand almost immediately. Dreyer Linen carries 100% cotton, eco-friendly Indulgence towels along with Snag Free towels across a spread of sizes, running from face cloths and hand towels up to bath towels, bath sheets and bath mats. Pool towels feature in the range too. Properties wanting a weightier towel in guest rooms will find a 630gsm bath sheet and hand towel set listed, while the 485gsm Snag Free bath and hand towel sets are packaged in fours.

Who Dreyer Linen serves

Its customers span hotels, B&Bs, guest houses, lodges, mines, schools, retail stores and private homes right across South Africa. The client roll over the years has featured Sun International, the Hyatt, the Blue Train, Emperor’s Palace, JD Group, Edcon Group, Mass Stores, Dial-a-Bed and Shoprite Checkers, together with a host of independent retailers and hotels.

Preferential pricing applies for hotels, guest houses, lodges, mines, schools and bulk buyers, and establishments are welcome to request a quote tailored to their requirements. For smaller purchases made online, the website applies tiered discounts at checkout: orders over R2 500 earn 10%, those over R5 000 earn 15% and those above R10 000 earn 20%. Delivery is quoted at three to five days, shipping is free on orders over R1 000, and payment is handled securely through PayFast. A selection of products can also be bought on Takealot.

Experience behind the product

Managing Director Meyer Blumenau came into the business in 1968 and brings more than 50 years of experience across textile sourcing, design, manufacturing and distribution, backed by diplomas in textile recognition and production management. Brandon Blumenau, a BCompt Honours graduate in accounting and auditing who served his articles with Deloitte, joined in 2003 and oversees sales, financial management, production and business strategy.

It is this blend of manufacturing expertise and hands-on management that has kept Dreyer Linen among the established Linen Suppliers to South Africa’s hospitality and retail sectors for decades.

Planning ahead for a busy summer

Once December lands, South Africa’s hospitality calendar shows no sign of easing. For venues, the window between now and the holidays is the ideal moment to take stock, retire worn pieces and close any gaps before guests begin to arrive. Dreyer Linen’s showroom at 49 Julbert Road in Benrose, Johannesburg, welcomes buyers by appointment for those who would rather see and handle the products before committing to an order.

Hospitality managers, procurement teams and homeowners alike can explore the full range, ask for a quote or set up a showroom visit at https://dreyerlinen.co.za/.
