The best of British lotharios, cheating spouses and sexy mistresses and the best of all a play that doesn’t challenge you to think but only to not laugh out loud.
Don’t Dress for Dinner is a typical French/British farce and the intention is to entertain and to make the audience laugh.
In the local PEMADS version we will see the lothario husband Bernard, played by Gareth Bain, his wife, Jacqueline, played by Holly McTiffen, who is also cheating on him with his best friend Robert, played by Andrew Horne. Throw in a quirky cook, played by Helen Flax and a sexy mistress to Bernard, played by Vanessa Smith and you have a “recipe” for “liaisons dangereuses”. A last minute twist in the form of the cook’s husband, played by Dave Jordaan is also a treat.
Don’t Dress for Dinner was originally a French play by Marc Camoletti and adapted by British Playwright Robin Hawdon. The play has enjoyed worldwide acclaim and success on both the West End and in New York. It has recently had a revival in London and been nominated for the 2011 Comedy of the Year in the UK.
Other big successes of Robin Hawdon’s include, Boeing Boeing, The Mating Game and Perfect Wedding, which recently enjoyed a revival in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The play is directed by Lesley Barnard.
Bookings will open on 31 August at Walmer Park Info Desk. Cost of tickets will be R65.
Vouchers can be bought from cast members at a cost of R55 and must be exchanged for a ticket from Walmer Park.
Curtain goes up at 7.30pm each evening. The run is from Wednesday 14th September up to Saturday, 24th September 2011.
