Dear MyPE
During an oversight visit yesterday, the DA was shocked to find the Dimbiza Fire Station closed with no vehicle or personnel in sight.
The fence and gate surrounding the fire station was padlocked and staff members at a petrol station located across the road told us that the fire station had been locked for months.
This was a direct contradiction to the assurance given by Mr Steve Terwin, General Manager of Emergency Services, at the most recent Health and Public Safety portfolio meeting held on 6 July 2017, to a question posed by the DA about the functionality of the fire station. He assured us that the station was fully functional and had a first response vehicle.
The fact that the Dimbiza station is in fact closed and no longer functional, means that one lone vehicle, a pumper, stationed in King Williams Town has to service the entire area of KWT, Bhisho, Dimbaza, Zwelitsha, Sweetwaters, Breidbach, as well as all the rural villages located in this vast area.
The Democratic Alliance will continue to submit questions, conduct oversight visits and amplify the dysfunctionality of the Buffalo City Municipality Fire Department until the residents of the Metro are afforded the fire services they are entitled to and pay for monthly through levies.

Sue Bentley Cllr
Buffalo City Municipality PR Councillor
