DigitFMS Launches D-Pod: a Covert, No-SIM Asset Tracker

21 July 2026 By Alan Straton

Table of Contents

Johannesburg, July 21, 2026 – With roughly 85 vehicles reported stolen every day in South Africa, and countless unpowered assets — trailers, generators, plant and bulk-fuel equipment — moving between sites with no eyes on them at all, DigitFMS has launched the Digit D-Pod (Model PB705): a compact, magnetic, self-contained tracking device that deploys in seconds, hides in plain sight, and reports location without a SIM card, wiring or any visible infrastructure.

The message behind the launch is deliberately blunt: visibility doesn’t ask permission. Where traditional tracking depends on installation, connectivity contracts and being switched on, the D-Pod is built on the opposite principle — it depends on being unseen.

The blind spot most operations don’t see until it’s too late

Not every loss is dramatic. Most are silent. Trailers get relocated. Equipment gets reassigned. Generators disappear between sites. Not stolen, not lost — just unaccounted for, until it becomes a problem.

“Last seen” is not real visibility. Time delays hide an asset’s true location, accountability evaporates between hand-overs, and movement happens without instruction. The result is a chain of operational blind spots: misplaced trailers, unauthorised movement, delayed recovery, growing insurance exposure and escalating replacement costs. As DigitFMS puts it: “If you’re not tracking it, you’re guessing.”

Tracking without installation

The Digit D-Pod removes the three things that slow conventional tracking down — time, planning and downtime. There is no wiring and no fitment appointment. The unit is activated by unscrewing the housing and connecting the internal battery, placed on any metal surface via its magnetic base in seconds, and left to work.

Crucially, the D-Pod does not depend on traditional networks. Instead of a SIM card or GSM signal, it leverages the Apple Find My ecosystem — a vast, constantly moving global network of nearby devices. Every compatible device that passes within range becomes a silent signal carrier, with no pairing, no awareness and no disruption. The outcome is a distributed tracking system with no single point of failure: quiet, passive, placed once and left undetected, reporting continuously as the world moves around it.

After activation, the first position is typically received within roughly one hour, followed by between 8 and 25 location updates per day depending on surrounding device activity — all viewable live through the Digit Mobile App.

Engineered for the real world

Built for harsh environments and designed for simplicity, the D-Pod is IP68 waterproof, carries an approximately two-year battery life for long-term deployment, and measures just 38mm wide by 26mm high — compact enough to remain fully covert and undetectable to asset handlers. It is also D-CUT ready and supports national stolen-asset and vehicle recovery, with recovery procedures that can be initiated once a compromised asset is confirmed stationary, enabling a controlled, coordinated retrieval.

Key capabilities include a magnetic base for tool-free installation in seconds, IP68 waterproofing that survives extreme conditions, an approximately two-year battery life, no SIM requirement and zero infrastructure dependency, a compact and discreet covert form factor, and passive tracking that stays invisible to asset handlers.

From uncertainty to control

The value is measurable and immediate: faster asset recovery, reduced loss exposure, improved operational awareness, lower insurance risk and increased accountability across teams. “This isn’t about tracking,” the company notes. “It’s about knowing.”

The Digit D-Pod is designed for logistics and transport fleets, mining and heavy equipment, construction sites, trailer-rental businesses, fuel depots and generators, and any operation looking to mitigate insurance risk. The positioning is simple: if it moves, if it can disappear, and if it matters — it needs a D-Pod.

“Most tracking solutions ask you to stop, install and hope nobody finds the device. The D-Pod flips that entirely — it’s placed in seconds, it depends on invisibility rather than infrastructure, and it can’t be tampered with because nobody expects it’s there. This is no longer fleet tracking; it’s asset intelligence,” says Lee Bester, Business Development Manager at DigitFMS.

The Digit D-Pod (Model PB705) is available now across South Africa.
