Diesel tanks stolen in truck hijacking: Gqeberha – SAPS Crime Report: 2021-12-10 12:01:49

10 December 2021 By Port Elizabethan

South African Police Service

Office of the Provincial Commissioner Eastern Cape

GQEBERHA – Police in Gqeberha are urging residents to be on the lookout for aluminium diesel tanks which were stolen in a hijacking on Thursday afternoon, 09 December 2021 in Markman.

It is alleged that at about 15:40, on the mentioned date, a white Hino truck was hijacked by a group of about 10 armed suspects on the N2 off ramp, Addo Road in Markman.

It is further alleged that as the truck was turning onto the R335 (Addo Road) off ramp, in the direction of the Markman industrial area, a white VW Polo, a white Toyota Tazz and another unknown vehicle blocked the road in front of the truck and pointed the driver (37) and his passenger with  firearms. The driver was forced to drive to Ikamvelihle after which he and his passenger were forced into the Toyota Tazz and driven off, leaving the truck behind.

The truck was later found abandoned in Old Uitenhage Road. The cargo of 16 pallets of aluminium diesel tanks were stolen. The value of the tanks is not known at this stage. Investigations continue.

Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in locating these tanks or who may have any information relating to this case to contact  the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation in Gqeberha, Detective Sergeant Welile Ndzima at 071 352 4782 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. All information is confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
