No matter what happens online, the fortunes of our businesses are tied to our rankings on Google – if you appear on the first page for any number of search queries related to your business then the money will flow. Drop off of the organic rankings and you have to spend money to get your traffic back – a simple equation that creates a win win for Google and SEO experts.
Amidst all the hype and flurry over the 24 July 2014 change to Google’s Algorithm – this determines which sites are listed on Google and where – dubbed ‘Pigeon’, I particularly like what author, Greg Gifford, says about directories in an article titled, Worried About Pigeon? Just Keep On Truckin’. Greg states that Pigeon has rocked the local SEO world and attempts to answer how we should respond to Google’s new local search algorithm update.
Greg encourages web site owners to; “Get Your Barnacle On” and goes on to explain:
Barnacle SEO is the practice of attaching yourself to the “SEO authority” of larger sites and letting business drift on over to you. Now that Pigeon has bumped up directories in the local listings, there are more barnacle opportunities than ever.
Check your important keywords and see which directories are showing up now. Make sure you’re listed on those directories, and make sure your listings are completely filled out and optimized. Sure, they’re not the same as getting website visitors, but with the directories now taking over local results, you’ll still get more customer eyeballs.
Have you listed your business on MyPE yet? No web site required and your listing can act as a mini web site for you.
Go to: http://mype.co.za/new/pe/business-directory to list your business.
If you are listed get your clients to rate and comment on your listing – this will help raise the profile of your business and translate in more sales.
