EP Cricket this week announced at its Annual General Meeting that the 2015-2016 season was an exceptional year for the Union. At the AGM held on Saturday 30 July the Audited Financial Statements were adopted and EPC received an unqualified report from Auditors Deloitte and Touche. From a loss of R3 million two years ago the Union has managed to turn its financial position into a healthy R2.5 million profit for the 2015-2016 financial year. All outstanding debt has been paid and EPC has received a tax clearance certificate from SARS.
It was earlier reported that EPC had also received the Most Improved Province award from CSA after showing great improvement on various CSA scorecard items. Governance had shown the most improvement with the EP Board appointing independent Directors and providing greater stability.
St George’s Park successfully hosted the SA vs England ODI and is on a major drive to be the venue of choice for other major non cricket related activities.
From a stadium perspective CSA has awarded St George’s 3 international matches this season (SA vs Australia ODI on 9 October, SA vs Sri Lanka Test Match 26-30 December and SA vs Sri Lanka ODI on 28 January 2017) with a further three internationals for the 2017-18 season.
EPC is also currently engaging with the Metro to form a partnership that will assist with the maintenance of the historic St George’s Park. The Metro has also come on board to assist with professional cricket and the Warriors will receive R6 million per year from the Metro.
Clubs have received assistance from the Union with regard to coaches, equipment, balls and transport.
The EP Provincial team enjoyed good results last season narrowly missing out on the top spot in their various competitions. The EP Women’s team were last year promoted to play in the national league.
The KFC Sponsorship to promote cricket at primary school’s level has been a very exciting sponsorship with the KFC U13 schools T20 Final played at St George’s under lights.
The EP Umpires association received a welcome sponsorship from Metro Security which will assist with umpires officiating at all top league matches. In his President’s Report, Donovan May said “I would like to thank the Board of Directors, CEO, Staff and all involved in administrating this wonderful game of ours and for allowing the Board to exercise it duties. I’m sure that we can agree that the future of Eastern Province Cricket is much brighter now. I would also like to thank Cricket South Africa for the assistance they have rendered this past year.”
