Dear Bulls – Please grow your own

24 November 2015 By Alan Straton

Speculation is rife that three more players from the embattled Kings franchise could join the Bulls in the near future.

The Kings are in dire financial straits, and with the EP Rugby Union struggling to play their players, a few have opted to leave the union. (See: Cheeky Watson on SARU ‘Takeover’)

The Bulls have already signed prop Lizo Gqoboka and wing Luther Obi from the Kings and have now set their sights on wing Sylvian Mahuza as well as loose forwards Thembelani Bholi and Tim Agaba.

According to Bulls High Performance Manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg, talks with three players are on-going and they could still join the team in the near future.

Personally I find it rather comical that all the payers targeted are the Kings ‘black’ players. This brings to mind the accusations hurled at the Kings over the years of being too white and not supporting transformation. But, when the proverbial hits the fan, we then see the other unions dangling huge paychecks in front of transformational players nurtured in the Eastern Province.

Of course, when the accusations are hurled again people will forget that most of the transformational players in Super Rugby have the Eastern Province Rugby Union to thank for their formative years.

Spot the Eastern Province players in the Bulls Super Rugby squad for the upcoming season:
