Dafabet Warriors 2023/24 Season Squad

10 July 2023 By Alan Straton

Dafabet Warriors will enter the 2023/24 season with a winning team.

Kariega-born Warriors fast bowler Anrich Nortje was named SA Men’s Player of the Year at the annual Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards held in Midrand on Friday, July 7.

Bowling all-rounder Beyers Swanepoel capped a superb season by scooping the Division 1 4-Day Domestic Series Player of the Season and the SACA Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Season awards.

Swanepoel also received the SACA Most Valuable Player Award.

His teammate, Jordan Hermann was named Domestic Newcomer of the Season.

New Dafabet Warriors recruit JP King was named CSA Student Player of the Year.

King is one of 11 new players for the 2023/2024 season announced by coach Robin Peterson.

They are JP King (Knights), Jivesan Pillay (Titans), Renaldo Meyer (North West), Nealan van Heerden (Knights), Andile Mokgakane (Tuskers), Patrick Kruger (Knights), Alfred Mothoa (Knights), Liam Alder (Lions), and Sean Whitehead (South Western Districts).

Siya Semetu (South Western Districts) and George van Heerden (SA under 19s) join the Dafabet Warriors squad on High Performance contracts.

Retained core squad members are Jordan Hermann, Matthew Breetzke, Diego Rosier, Siya Plaatjie, Sinethemba Queshile, Beyers Swanepoel and Rudi Second.

The national contracted players are Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje and Tristan Stubbs.

Commenting on the changes, Peterson said “the 2022/2023 was a mixed season for us, but I am really happy with our 4 Day Series result. We missed out on the trophy by a very narrow margin.

“Our focus now returns to the 2023/24 season, and we have finalized the squad with some exciting new signings.

“In addition to the announcement of the squad, Cricket Eastern Cape is thrilled to have no less than five players in the SA A team currently touring Sri Lanka as well as six players included in the National Academy,” says High Performance manager Shafiek Abrahams.

“The inclusion of our players in the SA A team and the National Academy is testament to the hard work and dedication put in by the players and the coaching staff at the franchises “.

Plaatjie, Alder, Mokgakane, Nealan van Heerden, George van Heerden and Hermann all received national academy placements.
Alder and Plaatjie are on Rookie Warriors contracts.

Also joining the Dafabet Warriors is fitness coach Sherman Baatjes.

Baatjes was previously with the Cobras and has returned to his home town to take up the role with the Warriors.

The squad is due to assemble in Nelson Mandela Bay mid-August from their respective CSA High Performance squads and overseas commitments.

It is expected the 2023-2024 season will get underway with the 50 over competition in late September.

Full squad: Jordan Hermann, Matthew Breetzke, Diego Rosier, JP King, Sinethemba Queshile, Jiveshan Pillay, Siya Plaatjie, Renaldo Meyer, Nealan van Heerden, Beyers Swanepoel, Andile Mokgakane, Patrick Kruger, Sean Whitehead, Alfred Mothoa, Rudi Second, Liam Alder, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, Siya Semethu, George van Heerden.
