Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) secured a clean sweep of the silverware on this year’s Vodacom Corporate Triathlon Challenge, held in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 9 April, which featured almost 2 000 competitors.

Repeating last year’s success, Continental-backed triathletes dominated the individual races, comprising a 380 m swim, 18 km cycle and 4.2 km run. Competing in Continental colours and in near-perfect weather conditions, Keegan Cooke powered his way to a winning time of 45 min 10 sec – a fantastic result after having finished as runner-up at the 2015 event.

He was followed home by team-mates Jamie Riddle (46:26), Travis McGrath (47:50) and Merrick Fairall (49:21).

In the women’s triathlon, Continental’s Antonelle Saporta was the class of the field, crossing the finish line first with a time of 54 min 57 sec. Last year’s winner, Liza Kingston, came home third (56:16), behind Monique Janse van Rensburg.

Continental was unstoppable in the team event too, with its three-man Sport Contact crew, comprising swimmer Daniel Jones, cyclist Kellan Gouveris and runner Amos Nyongo blitzing last year’s winning time by 44 sec to take the top step of the podium with a combined time of 42 min 40 sec.

“This truly was a dream result for us, and we couldn’t have asked for anything better,” says Ryan Visagie, Brand Manager for CTSA and team manager for this event. “We set out to win by assembling some of the most talented athletes in Port Elizabeth, and it paid off with wins across all three categories. Well done to everyone that competed for Team Conti!”

The Port Elizabeth-based tyre manufacturer also won the Corporate Award for the largest number of entries, comprising 30 teams and nine individuals.
