THE Coega Development Corporation (CDC), South Africa’s leader in socio-economic growth and development, is continuing to show commitment in community upliftment.
Fifty blankets and five wheelchairs will be donated to Masibambisane Home Based Centre in Mdantsane, East London during a special ceremony tomorrow (10 March). The event will be attended by representatives from the centre and senior officials from the Department of Social Development, Ward Councillors and Cecilia Makiwane Hospital Project (CMH) Support Committee members.
The donation forms part of several life-changing community and upliftment programmes driven by the CDC’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes.
“The CDC is a people-centred organisation. Our CSI programmes offer long term sustainable solutions and improves the lives of communities we serve,” said Thandi Rayi, CDC CSI Manager.
Rayi added that there are also plans to donate school uniforms for the 2015 Back to School Winter Campaign.
Masibambisane Home Based Care is a non-profit organisation registered under the Department of Social Development. The centre provides care and support to HIV/Aids infected and affected people. They also care for orphans and vulnerable children.
“Coega has a number of projects within the Mdantsane and East London areas. The main one is the Cecilia Makiwane Hospital construction project. Communities are empowered through employment as well as training and skills development which the CDC provides,” said Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, head of CDC Marketing and Communications.
According to Dr Vilakazi, the CDC is deeply committed to CSI across a range of key focal areas. “During the 2013/14 FY, the CDC invested in excess of R17-million in the local and regional communities,” he said.
“We have also impacted the lives of over 13 000 people either directly and indirectly through Coega-led CSI initiatives, which focus on skills, education, training, upliftment and empowerment.”
