Football is one of the most popular sporting codes at the NMMU, with a schedule that continues all year round. There are currently five teams participating in several league and cup competitions ranging from PEFA and USSA-EC. An exciting new addition, as of 2013, is the inclusion of two junior teams, competing in the PEFA u15 and u17 age categories. The introduction of the junior teams is core to the clubs outreach program with Phakamisa High School.

The three senior teams are affiliated to the P.E. Football Association and include a Women’s team. There is one team taking part in the PEFA Premier League, League Cup and the NMM Metro Cup, one in the Premier Reserve and the ladies in the Women’s League.

In addition both the men’s and women’s teams take part in the USSA-EC football leagues for universities.
