CDC placement centre seeking labour with critical skills

The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) Recruitment and Induction Centre – a hub for human resource capacity building and host of a massive database of Nelson Mandela Bay’s skills pool – is calling all work seekers with construction related skills to register or update their details on the Coega database.

“We have recently encountered a challenge of growing concern, where job seekers contact details are outdated and we are unable to get hold of them when job opportunities arise,” said CDC head of recruitment and placement, Duncan Grenfell.

“The Coega Industrial Development Zone is booming at the moment and future construction projects are due to come online soon coupled with new investors becoming operational – naturally this means jobs for the region, but we need to be able to reach those with the appropriate skills sets and get them to apply for positions.

“The new projects include the peaking power plant, the tank farm, the extension of the port, air separation plants, manganese smelter, cement manufacturer, and warehouses from investments by the likes of Afrox, Air Products and FAW, to name a few.”

The CDC job seeker database has a staggering 263 887 people registered on its Gateway2Opportunity, or G2O website (www.g2o.co.za).

“We are currently looking for people with a unique set of skills to update their details on the database; the immediate skills in need are in the civils, building, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation sectors.

“The vacancies to be filled are  concrete-hands, shutterhands, pipelayers, bricklayers, certified scaffolders, riggers, coded welders (tank welders/ structural welders/ pipe welders/ HDPE welders), boilermakers, mechanical fitters, tank builders, pipe-fitters, plant operators for TLB, dozer, front end loader, and excavator operators, and mobile and tower crane operators,” added Grenfell.

All job seekers in particular with the mentioned skills are encouraged to update their details on-line by going to www.g2o.co.za or at the Coega Recruitment Centre, R102, and Old Coega road before 28 Nov 2013.

“The CDC is serious about the strides it is making regarding socio-economic development for the Eastern Cape Province as well as the country in its entirety. Having a consolidated registration management process designed to register job seekers wishing to be considered for employment on Coega projects is imperative – but more so is the functionality of that database and hence we urge all registered job seekers to update their details with immediate effect,” said head of marketing and communications, Ayanda Vilakazi.
