INTERNS at the Coega Development Corporation (CDC) KwaZulu-Natal office raised more than R7 000 to buy much needed educational supplies, groceries and toys for an early childhood development centre, the Nurdeen Institute of Education (NIE), located in Umlazi. This was part of their efforts to commemorate Mandela Month.
NIE is a non-profit organisation and is home to 36 children between the ages of two to six. The centre was founded in 2006 by Ntombizodwa Moya. Her organisation operates from a mosque generously donated by World Assembly of Muslim Youth.
“Our mission is to spread the spirit of ubuntu and, most importantly, to provide our children with a healthy environment where they can grow,” said Moya.
“Although we have attempted to close gaps where possible, more can be done to support the wonderful work of Ms Moya. The children still need more stationery, books, toys, food and blankets,” said Asanda Qangule, CDC KZN Stakeholder Relations Manager.
“We are deeply grateful to the CDC for fulfilling our needs. They have surpassed our expectations. I pray that God will bless them for their kind spirit and generosity towards our school. Our children have benefitted from their efforts,” said Moya.
As a leading agent for socio-economic development, the CDC understands the importance of addressing social problems such as poverty, unemployment and crime.
“The good work of Ms Moya has reminded us that, as members of the CDC family, it is important that we play our part. We need to partner with aid organisations to make sure that there are good opportunities offered to disadvantaged young people of South Africa,” said Qangule.
