Carols from Around the World

The inimitable Richard Cock will conduct a programme of “Christmas Carols from round the World” on Sunday 20 November at 3-00pm at St Marys Cathedral, next to the library on the Market Square in Port Elizabeth

The choirs, soloists and the audience will sing some very familiar carols such as:  Once in Royal David’s City; O come, all ye faithful;  O little town of Bethlehem and more.

Choirs affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and other invited groups will sing more well known and some new compositions such as: The Colours of Christmas (England); Good King Wenceslas (Czechoslovakia); Never a Baby like Jesus (Jamaica); Come, Colours Rise (South Africa)

Local baritones Ayanda Pohlwana and Akhona Nkamanda will entertain us with their renditions of White Christmas, We three Kings, The Holy City and The Trumpet shall Sound , while the counter tenor, Segun Soyemi, will sing a Nigerian carol.

The five primary schools from the Northern Areas participating in the Choral Project sponsored by the National Lottery Commission will combine in the singing of a Tyrolean song: Daylight is Fading and I Saw three Ships  and  will support the choir and audience in other carols

In addition, there will be a brass interlude and an organ solo

Entrance, including the programme, will cost: R60 for Adults (incl Pensioners) and R30 for Students/Scholars. Tickets for seats – which are not reserved – will be on sale at St Cuthbert’s Church daily from Mon 14 to Fri 18 November from 9-00am to 1-00pm – as well as at the entrance to the Cathedral from 2-00pm on Sunday
