Cape Town’s Festive Showstopper

22 December 2025 By Alan Straton

Table of Contents

This festive season, give the gift of a summer day out that blends cricket, culture and unforgettable entertainment. Cape Town is gearing up for its biggest holiday celebration as Newlands transforms into a vibrant festival playground for the Opening Match on 26 December and a series of blockbuster fixtures through January 2026.

This is more than cricket. It’s a full-scale lifestyle experience designed for families, sports lovers, holidaymakers and anyone ready to kick off summer with electric energy and Cape Town magic.

Here is everything turning Newlands into the most entertaining corner of the Mother City this festive season:

  • Local Performers – Expect bursts of local entertainers bring the sound and spirit of the city to the concourse, delivering colour, rhythm and big Newlands energy.
  • Fun-filled activities for kids – Gates open 3 hours before the start of each match. All young fans are invited onto the field for the first hour after gates open. Kids are encouraged to bring a bat and soft ball, giving them a unique chance to play, explore and be part of the action before the match begins (Weather dependent). In addition to cricket, fun activities for the kids include stilt walkers, balloon artists, and face painters.
  • Festive Giveaways & Surprise Activations – From Christmas cheer and New Year’s Eve excitement to summer surprises, fans can expect merch drops, festive pop-ups and memory-making moments throughout the stadium.
  • Massive Prizes Up for Grabs –
    • The chance to win big for a clean one-handed catch in Betway’s Catch R2 Million competition. Suzuki will also be giving away a brand new Suzuki Swift GL+.
    • Absa cardholders will enjoy ticketing discounts as well as a chance to win up to R200 000 at every live Betway SA20 match!
    • Switch will be giving away R5K at each match, and Castle Lite is back with their spin-and-win wheel.

Major Music Performances

Two of South Africa’s biggest acts light up Cape Town this season:

  • Shimza, delivering an explosive Opening Match performance on 26 December.
  • Will Linley, bringing his chart-topping sound to the Final on 25 January.

Fans can also join the stadium-wide #PutYourHandsUp celebration and stream the official Betway SA20 Spotify playlist, filled with festival favourites and stadium anthems.
