CampusKey Student Living Opens in Port Elizabeth

1 June 2016 By Port Elizabethan

CampusKey, the premier provider of student accommodation in South Africa, has opened its doors in Port Elizabeth. Situated in 9th Avenue, Summerstrand, CampusKey offers 144 luxury, fully furnished rooms, meeting students’ needs by providing a suitable living atmosphere for study and social.

Says Leon Howell, MD of CampusKey: “CampusKey Student Living has established a national footprint, with campuses at well-established universities. These include the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, the University of the North-West, University of the Free State, Stellenbosch University, Pretoria University and in 2017 the University of Cape Town.”

Howell reckons that the CampusKey in Port Elizabeth is ideally situated to maintain a balanced student lifestyle. “We’re situated close to Marine Drive in Summerstrand, with shopping centres and restaurants nearby. What can be better than a lifestyle of studying and surfing in your free time? Although we’re only 2.5 km from campus, we’re in the process of establishing a bicycling programme whereby 80 bikes will be made available to students.”

Furthermore Howell adds: “At CampusKey we focus on the lifestyle concept, providing trendy student living like no other. Not only do we offer fully furnished rooms, but we also provide students with social and study areas where they will be able to excel in their academic career.”

Howell explains that the building was not completed on time. “Being so close to the sea, delays in construction were caused by strong winds and storms during which contractors were forced to stop. Students were temporarily accommodated at the Radisson Hotel and other suitable nearby accommodation. We’re delighted that students have moved in and all problems have been addressed and solved. We’re now completing the communal braai area and deck.”

According to Howell, many of their students this year are from overseas. “Many of our students are from Europe, the USA and Far East. They come to NMMU for a semester on an exchange programme. For many students it is also the first time they leave home and their accommodation is one of the most important factors in their happiness and critical for academic success. Going to a new city to study provides many opportunities to learn new things, see new places and meet different people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. It’s of benefit to both the overseas and local students. Through their interaction, everyone gets the opportunity to improve their life skills.”

Diana van der Merwe, Marketing Manager at CampusKey, adds that CampusKey provides an all-inclusive product exclusively for students. “Each student receives 1G free Wi-Fi per month! Our rooms are fully furnished with a ¾ bed and quality mattress, desk, chair, bookcase, wardrobe, wall mounted panel heater and block-out curtains. Two students share a well-equipped kitchen with stovetop, fridge and freezer, as well as a kettle. To add to the luxury of the rooms, all our Premier and Studio rooms are fitted with a 40” LED TV, with the option of a DSTV bouquet. State-of-the-art gym facilities are provided onsite exclusively for the CampusKey students, as well as communal areas with pool- or foosball tables, TV’s with DSTV, braai areas and a communal kitchen. Laundry facilities are also available onsite for the students’ convenience.” All the above mentioned facilities are provided in the all-inclusive service and residence fee paid by the students.

Howell believes CampusKey Student Living is setting the standard for secure student living in South Africa. “At CampusKey security is a big priority. With cutting-edge biometric access, trailblazing CCTV surveillance systems, secure bicycle storage, basement parking areas and a hands-on dynamic management team, the CampusKey student can start their university life with ease.”
