Business United Through Sport Mandela Day kick-off

Businesses in Nelson Mandela Day have just one week left to donate any new or used sporting items to the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber’s CSI campaign.

The donated items secure each company’s spot in a friendly game of soccer played on Mandela Day (18 July from 08h30 to 11h00) at Astra Primary School in Bethelsdorp.

All items collected by the Business Chamber will be handed over to registered charity United Through Sport prior to the first soccer game.

Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber CEO Kevin Hustler said the goal of this year’s Mandela Day campaign is to make a lasting difference in the lives of children of Nelson Mandela Bay, beyond the fun activities of Mandela Day.

“This year we have partnered with member organisation, United Through Sport, for several reasons, of which the most important is the direct impact the organisation’s work has on the youth of Nelson Mandela Bay,” Hustler said.

United Through Sport uses sport as a medium to promote child and youth development in disadvantaged communities. The organisation impacts the lives of over 18 000 children from the Metro annually, said United Through Sport Director Nick Mould.

“We’re excited to be partnering with so many different local organisations this year, through the Business Chamber. The donations of sporting kit and equipment will go a long way to helping us ensure the sustainability of the programme well into the future and impact as many young lives as possible,” Mould said.

The Business United Through Sport event partner for Mandela Day is Magnetic Storm, who will also be donning their tekkies for a fun game of soccer with the children and other businesses.

“As a business with a big heart, we constantly look for opportunities to make a meaningful contribution. We have chosen to partner with the Business Chamber United Through Sport initiative as we truly feel that the commitment to using sport to develop the disadvantaged youth in our Metro is significant in so many ways. We look forward to working alongside businesses and having some fun on the field whilst supporting a very worthy cause,” said Magnetic Storm Director Jane Stevenson.

Companies are urged to deliver donations by Friday, 15 July to the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber offices, register participation as a team, and united through sport on the field on Mandela Day.
