Business Chamber in support of Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship

The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber is looking forward to this weekend’s Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship, when the city’s economy will get a welcome boost as our residents gear up to accommodate close to 2 000 athletes racing, of which 700 athletes are international participants.

“The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber would like to wish all participants the best of luck for Sunday’s Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship. We would like to encourage spectators to come out in numbers to support all the athletes this weekend, because every IRONMAN needs an IRONFAN,” said Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber CEO Kevin Hustler.

With the first ever combination of live coverage on DSTV, available live-streaming of the triathlon and a mobile app, this prestigious race is consistently growing and becoming globally accessible to showcase the beauty of Nelson Mandela Bay to overseas markets.

“We already have an influx of international tourists arriving in our city with more regional and national visitors making their way here as well. The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber is excited about the boost these visitors will give the local economy, in particular the tourism, retail and hospitality industries,” said Hustler.

Hustler also expressed the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber’s support for next year’s 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, where an expected 6 000 athletes will visit Nelson Mandela Bay to take part in the event.

“Events such as IRONMAN present the Bay with an opportunity to generate interest from local and international media, and show these audiences just how much of a potential sports-tourism hub our city is. This excellent exposure can attract future international investors and tourists to our beautiful shores,” Hustler said.
