Port Elizabeth’s very own renaissance woman and local celebrity, Buli G Ngomane, returned to the small screen this past weekend – Saturday 23 July – as the new presenter for the SABC 3 show, The Power Within.
Buli returned to Port Elizabeth at the beginning of 2010 to take up the post of Marketing and Communications Manager at the city’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. She also returned to Algoa FM, hosting the Sunday night 7pm to 10pm show, continuing to pursue her passion for the entertainment industry.
Buli said she had auditioned for The Power Within position earlier in the year, and was informed that she had been chosen to present the show earlier last week.
“It was a nervous wait as I went through the various stages, making the shortlist, and finally being confirmed as the presenter.”
“It is really a great honour to have been chosen to present such an inspiring show about women and how they have managed to overcome life’s challenges,” she said.
It is not the first time that Buli G has appeared on television, having previously been a regional presenter for the Noted TV series on SABC 3 during 2005/6.
“I have always been passionate about television, but there are very few opportunities for Eastern Cape presenters on national programmes as the industry hubs are in Cape Town and Johannesburg.”
Buli said the show would not impact on her current commitments, which also include studying her Management Advancement Programme at WITS business school after receiving a bursary for winning the Tomorrow’s Leader Award at CEO Magazine’s SA’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government Awards in 2010.
“What is great about this opportunity is that the production is shot throughout the country, so they are very flexible in terms of shooting,” she said.
Buli was also recognised in June this year as one of the Top 200 Young South Africans for 2011, by the Mail and Guardian.
Ngomane is proud to be an “Eastern Cape girl” and will help represent local designing outfit Silver Spoon by wearing their designs on the show.
