No stranger to performing at the PE Opera House, these two Male vocalists are amongst the highest selling Jazz’Afro Sundays @ The Barn acts.

Black Tye is one of the freshest and hottest properties of the Nelson Mandela Bay and the Eastern Cape, whose music has in a short space of time, been receiving positive reaction nationally.

Black Tye’s single has been on high rotation and had been at No 1 (For 6 weeks) at Bay FM (EC), Radio KC in WC (3 weeks) and on high rotation at Umhlobo Wenene FM (National Radio), He has been on high rotation on Tru FM; Mdantsane FM and may other commercial and community radio stations. Black Tye has filled venues in his “Western Cape via East London tour” that he has embarked on in November and December 2014. Since his recorded single was released in 2015, His repertoire of original songs are always well received in his live performances leaving audiences begging for more both in the Eastern Cape and beyond. His last achievement was to perform for a sold-out show at the PE Opera House Barn where he was commissioned as the solo act in the Jazz Afro Sundays.

His 13 track debut album titled “Mamela Mna” will be released in July 2017.

Black Tye has shared stages with the likes of Lira, Casper Nyovest, Caiphus Semenya; AKA; Oliver; The Soil Mtukudzi; Donald and Heavy K, Selina Johnson; Ringo; Nathi, Sankomotha to mention but a few.

Phindile Matsha known as Brown Sugah is an Afro-Soul, Jazz and Funk vocalist, song writer, composer & graphic designer. Growing up in the dusty streets of Kwazakhele is where Brown Sugah fell in love with music and at the tender age of 10 years he formed a group called ‘Pele Pele’. It was during this time he met Bongani ‘Kora X’ Tulwana who introduced him to Jazz. He accredits Tulwana for introducing him to the legends of Jazz in Nelson Mandela Bay, Dudley Tito, Nomzamo Mkhuzo, Vuyelwa Luzipo and Stompie Mavi to name but a few. He shared the stage and accompanied these legends for many years thus getting an opportunity to hone his skill for live performance.

Brown Sugah is inspired by Tulwana as he is the one who mentored him throughout his career, giving him the confidence to make music not only his passion but his career. In 2003 Brown Sugah joined local jazz band Mo’Jazz as an occasional vocalist alongside Dumza Maswana & Loyiso Mali. In 2009 he joined the jazz band Blaze as a lead vocalist. In 2014 he was selected to be part of the AVOH Choir which was part of the Stompie Mavi Tribute produced by the PE Opera House for the Nelson Mandela Bay Concert Series.

In 2014 he started his own band naming it Brown Sugah & The Microwave. Since then there were opportunities aplenty. They have had the privilege to open for international and national acts such as Kenny Latimore, George Benson, Hugh Masekela amongst the long list.

They have performed at a number of festivals namely Ebubeleni Music Festival & Splash Festival.

Saturday evening’s concert is not one to be missed!

Concert takes place on 22 July 2017 from 19h00 on the Opera House, Main Stage. Admission is R150.00 single or R200.00 a Couple.
