Boardwalks Sweet 16

3 October 2016 By Alan Straton

The Boardwalk is celebrating its 16th birthday this month and the milestone will be marked with a super-charged line up of shows and promotions in October. It is a sweet 16 for The Boardwalk. Over its 16 year history, the complex has become renowned for delivering premium shows, a variety of action-packed entertainment for families and a choice of restaurants in one, beautiful location overlooking the best beaches in Port Elizabeth.

“Our success over the years is due to the passion, commitment and enthusiasm of our team, and the support and loyalty of our community. We have no plans to lose any of the momentum we’ve gathered over the past 16 years

“We are also enormously appreciative of the support we have received from the community over the years and thank all of our customers for their loyalty,” says Brett Hoppé, the General Manager of The Boardwalk.

Entertainment and events on the cards for October include the 2016 The Herald First Choice Kids and Baby Expo (7 to 9 October); an inspiring ladies breakfast with Alison Botha, author of I Have Life (22 October); Ashley Pienaar’s musical showcase, Bring Back the legends; a music concert with Ray Dylan, Len Muller and Sharoney (26 October); the Black Tax comedy show with comedian Celeste Ntuli (29 October) and live entertainment by local bands every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Bravo Bar.

Boasting a state-of-the-art casino, the ample Boardwalk Amphitheatre, the five-star Boardwalk Hotel, a variety of restaurants and retail outlets, a world-class Africology Spa, the Boardwalk International Convention Centre, and superior conferencing facilities, The Boardwalk provides the best of all worlds, from a relaxing retreat to a launch pad for adventures and business ventures in the region.

Activities for families and children include a supervised crèche; a range of arcade games at the Magic Company; ten pin bowling at Lighthouses; go-carting; adventure golf and the latest movies at Nu Metro cinema. Family-style restaurants and cafes include Spur, Cereal Café, the Ola ice cream store, The Wimpy and more. A myriad of shows and events are staged at the Amphitheatre and International Convention Centre throughout the year. The Boardwalk’s exceptional conferencing facilities and holistic service has also seen the hotel play host to high profile conventions and conferences. It is all of these things that make The Boardwalk Hotel one of choice.

However, it hasn’t only been about creating fun. The Boardwalk takes tremendous pride in its role as a corporate citizen of Port Elizabeth, and continuously strives towards excellence to enhance the complex’s appeal so as promote tourism to Nelson Mandela Bay and thereby contribute to the local economy. From the very beginning, The Boardwalk has put in place numerous social and environmental responsibility programmes, striving wherever possible to support organisations and initiatives with causes close to its heart – and the heart of the community.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
