A MyPE.co.za ‘poetry’ selected video for you:
Between Absence and Presence took place at the Mandela Bay Development Agency building in Baakens Street on 29 January 2016.
There exists a complex relationship between the poet and their work; a layering so intricate that the reader and poet are always present and absent from one another. That is, since a poem/ text is an artefact – a fragment of a whole – that the reader interacts with thereby creating meaning, the poet’s persona that geistly exists in their work creates a thick veil of impenetrability that hinders the reader from understanding the text holistically.
Between Absence and Presence (BAP) is a reading and dialogue series that explores Unathi Slasha’s unpublished debut novel The Seamy Side and Sisonkepapu’s unpublished debut poetry collection Hurry Up, We Are Dying! in an attempt to bridge the gap the between absence and presence that exists between reader and poet by acting as both guide and guided in order to construct meaning together with the reader/ audience through reading and dialogue.
