Zsports Events NPC, organisers of the 2015 Nelson Mandela Bay Bell Buoy Challenge, sponsored by Jendamark, have announced that the race will be moved to 7:00 am on Sunday morning due to wind warnings on Saturday.
“Watching the weather patterns, we have extremely high off-shore winds predicted for Saturday which would compromise the safety of the swimmers so we have made the decision to start the 5km swim race at 7am on Sunday morning.” said Race organiser Mike Zoetmulder
This year’s race has attracted 107 swimmers from around the country as they attempt to tackle Africa’s toughest Indian Ocean Swim.
Race starts 7am from Pollok Beach with the first swimmers expected to complete the swim in one hour.
The Port Elizabeth WindGuru predicts 23 knots of wind from the south west at 5:00 am on Saturday morning, rising to 26 knots at 11:00 am.
Sunday looks much better with 4 knots at 8:00 am.
