One of the more interesting PE related old images that popped up on the #portelizabeth page recently was this one of Howard Mapplebeck (1847-1909) with family and friends, Emerald Hill, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, 1886. Howard is in white with pith helmet. Seated either side are his children Sybil Mapplebeck (1875-1955) and Sydney Mapplebeck (1877-1904).
The BD Collection is primarily of 19th and early 20th century portraits and other historical photographs associated with the Bensted and Day families.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth.
Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."
