Nelson Mandela Bay’s hope of Premier Soccer League participation, Bay Stars, dominated the top of the Vodacom League log clash against FC Buffalo on Friday with a 3 – 0 drumming.
Leroy van Rensburg, who opened his side’s account and Niven Kops (two exciting headers), had the home crowd in a frenzy at the Gelvandale Stadium and although rain came down before the final whistle it did not dampen the spirit.
This great result means that Bay Stars are still undefeated with only two goalless draws against Kokstad Liverpool and FC Tornado thus far and the confidence is undoubtedly high in the squad.
This positivity will be needed as the team will be taking on Champions FC at 16:00 in Matatiele on Wednesday and three days later another clash waits against Mighty Greens in Lady Gray at 15:00 on Saturday.
Managing Director Tony Lovegrove said shortly after the match that he is pleased with the result and hope that the travelling will not be too demanding this week.
“We are hopeful that our players will keep the good form that we currently enjoy and that they will be able to withstand the pressure of two league matches within days from another away from home,” he added.
Coach Graham Harrison said he if he was offered three unanswered goals as a result before the match, he would have taken it since the team struggled to score going into this crunch match.
“I am happy although we could have scored more goals but I am happy with the excellent performance.
“Going into the next week will be a tough assignment as all the travelling will be mentally and physically taxing. However, if we get through this unscathed we will definitely be in good standing in the competition,” Harrison added.
