Bay Stars poised to continue 100% home winning streak

Nelson Mandela Bay’s best hope of long term Premier Soccer League participation, Bay Stars, are poised to upset the apple cart this Friday when they take on Tembu Royals at the Gelvandale Stadium at 7:00 pm.

Friday night’s clashes in the Eastern Cape leg of the Vodacom League see the four top teams on the log taking each other on. Bay Stars are currently in second place with 50 points and Tembu Royals, third on 49 points.

Top of the log side FC Tornado with 55 log points are taking on FC Buffalo, currently on 45 points, which will undoubtedly be a tough derby for these East London outfits.

Bay Stars Coach Graham Harrison said although the team did not have a good result this weekend when they drew 0 – 0 against Bush Bucks in East London, Friday night’s match against Royals is crucial as it will be make or break.

“I am hugely disappointed at this weekend’s result as we dominated the match but were unable to score. Although we were unlucky as we did not come away with a positive result, this weekend’s match is very important.

“We did not give up the fight for the top of the log as anything can still happen in the five remaining matches,” he added.

Bay Stars Managing Director Tony Lovegrove said he is happy that the side will be able to return to Gelvandale Stadium this weekend as this venue turned out to be a happy hunting ground for the side.

“We still maintain a 100% track record at home. This excellent track record should boost the confidence of the side and hopefully we can convert it into points against a very close contender,” he added.
