Nelson Mandela Bay’s Premier Soccer League hope, Bay Stars, are on cloud nine after an inspired 3 – 1 home victory against Cloud Nine at the Gelvandale Stadium.
The defeat of Cloud Nine was engineered via a determined attack that led to exciting goals scored by Lutho Totwana and Farouk Abrahams. Lutho’s header was the only goal scored in the first half and Farouk added to his tally with two magnificent goals in the second half.
Bay Stars Managing Director Tony Lovegrove said loyal fans can consider the victory before the break in Vodacom League matches as a present and a special thank you since they often braved chilly weather to show their support.
“The boys showed they have the steely determination to go all the way and wanted to clinch a home win before their next Vodacom League match in January.
“We need to build on this exceptional performances and take the momentum and confidence into the new year that hold so many possibilities for a young club that showed that they are a force to be reckoned with on this level,” Lovegrove added.
The local outfit goes into the Christmas break undefeated with a game in hand, after the match against Mighty Greens of Lady Grey was cancelled due to thunder and heavy rain.
Coach Graham Harrison said although the team could have scored more goals, he is very happy with the 3 – 1 score line.
“There is no reason to be greedy you know,” Harrison joked shortly after the match.
Bay Stars will host trials at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s South Campus soccer field from Monday, 19 December, to Wednesday, 21 December.
Young players who think they have what it takes to strengthen a winning formula must bring their identity documents. Registration starts at 9:00 am.
