Eight Coega Development Corporation (CDC) young professionals graduated from the University of Cape Town (UCT) with a Post-Graduate Diploma qualification in Business Analysis and Systems Analysis (BASA) on the 13th June 2016.
The Post-Graduate Diploma forms part of CDC’s internship programme’s growth and development for all Interns who wishes to pursue studies in this field.
The 12-month BASA programme is aimed at developing new approaches that extend the existing knowledge of professionals in the area of Information Systems Business and Systems Analysis.
Furthermore, the programme provides critical training especially to young professionals enabling them to apply knowledge in organizational processes, exploit opportunities created by technology innovations, understand and address information requirements, design and manage enterprise architecture, identify and evaluate solutions by sourcing alternatives.
“We enrolled our interns for this programme because as the CDC, we believe that it will assist them in the job market. Currently, the country is suffering from a shortage of critical skills, particularly in business and systems analysis, which are critically needed by both small and big business. As a result, other companies in the country, instead of developing these skills and nurturing the talent for young professionals, they have had to either import talent from other economies or simply moved their businesses elsewhere,” said Zola Ngoma, Unit Head: Performance and Talent Management.
Therefore, through this programme, the CDC is bridging the gap by developing these necessary skills and nurturing the talent of young professionals in order to make them ready for labour market, and as future leaders of this country; this is in line with CDC’s vision of being a catalysts for championing of socio-economic growth in SA, adds Ms Ngoma.
Furthermore, “the BASA programme is an excellent course that has enabled me to apply my newly acquired skills and knowledge in the field, particularly business and systems re-engineering. As an HR professional, I look forward to developing, managing, and improving HR processes at CDC,” said Zandile Ben-Mazwi, CDC’s Labour Co-ordinator.
Among the personal growth and development opportunities offered by the CDC to both staff and interns are Prince 2, a Project Management training, and leadership courses offered by the Thabo Mbeki Leadership Institute (TMALI). Over the past couple of years, a large number of staff and interns have successfully completed Prince 2 training, which is important for CDC given that the organisation is a Programme Implementing Agent (PIA) providing project and facilities management for government, such as National Department of Public Works (NDPW), EC and KZN Department of Basic Education, and EC Department of Health, to name but a few.
“Through the BASA programme, as an enabler for projects development, continuous improvement of working practices, personal efficiency etc., and CDC’s flagship internship programmes, we hope to produce a high calibre of leaders who will make a meaningful contribution to SA’s sustainability and economic growth,” says Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, CDC Head of Marketing and Communications.
