Dear Editor
Since the spluttering Sauber Formula 1 team is set to be replaced by the Audi F1 stable in the year 2026 or so, it would therefore be great if the Volkswagen Group Africa [VWGA] could run give-away competitions for the VW Brand fan base to win trips to Formula 1 Grands Prix all around the world.
Lest we forget it, Volkswagen South Africa has been running the Polo Cup contest for years, which could be a much faster Feeder Series for Formula 3 and Formula 2 [GP2] for driving talent through its Audi stable mate, making it more realistic to qualify for top end motorsport without the of the proverbial buying of a seat for and/or into Formula 1, as pioneered by yours truly’s birth & childhood namesake around Zwide and New Brighton townships circa 1977; namely Andreas Nikolaus “Niki” Lauda.
As the former team principal of Sauber F1, it would also be inspirational if one of the once powerful women in Formula 1, that is Monisha Kaltenborn, could also be roped into the Audi F1 set up too; even as a start-up consultant. South Africa and Africa as a whole had one & only Formula 1 Champion in well over 45 Years now through the East Londoner, Jody David Scheckter, the very last Ferrari F1 Champion to be known by the Scuderia Ferrari founder, Enzo Anselmo Ferrari, not forgetting the very same 21 Year record holder for a Ferrari F1 driver’s championship title since 1979; before Michael Schumacher broke the said record in the Year 2000.
