Art Museum School Holiday Programme

A walkabout of the conservation exhibition, titled “Here Today, Here Tomorrow” will be conducted by the museum conservator Anthony Keogh and he will be accompanied by the ceramics restorer, Lisa Walker and the paper restorer, Suzanne Louw on Monday 25 June 2018 at 13h00-14h00.

They will talk about the conservation and restoration of paintings, ceramics and paper.

Entrance is free.

CHILDREN’S HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum will be hosting Visual Art workshops for children aged 7- 15 years old, during the school holidays.

  • Wednesday, 27 June 2018: Creative Drawing – Experiment with different drawing mediums, pencil, crayons, charcoal, pastel and ink.
  • Thursday, 28 June 2018: Monochromatic Painting – Learn how to create endless colours with a limited colour palette as you explore tints, tones and shades.
  • Friday, 29 June 2018: Paper Collage making – Create a picture by cutting and tearing paper from newspaper or magazine and glue them together.
  • Monday, 9 July 2018: Clay modelling – Learn how to make a bust (human head).
  • Wednesday, 11 July 2018: Painting abstract – Create a masterpiece by using just lines, Shapes to create abstract paintings from symbols.
  • Thursday, 12 July 2018: Print Making – Discover different ways of printmaking.

Time: 9h00-12h00 on dates above
Price: R30 cash, per child, per day.
All materials will be provided.
Please bring along an apron or old clothes and your own packed lunches.
Booking is essential as only a limited number of children can be accommodated.

MATHEMATICS ART WORKSHOPS

Have you ever drawn maths?

Carine Steyn, from Govan Mbeki Maths Development Centre of Nelson Mandela University will be running free Maths Art workshops to high school mathematics learners at the Art Museum.

  • Wednesday, 4 July 2018: Grade 8 – 12: The angle on spiralling numbers. We are going to investigate spirolaterals. Spirolaterals are spiraled, structured designs based on a repeated series of commands using length and angle. We will also look at the golden ratio and beautiful spirals in nature and demonstrate how to draw them using simple commands on a computer.
  • Thursday, 5 July 2018: Grade 10 – 12: The maths of animation. How do the modern animation movies make the figures move? What goes into the design of a figure? The functions and translations needed to draw simple animation figures and make them move will be demonstrated.
