Dear MyPE
Police Minister Nhleko has broken his 22 February 2016 promise to deploy the police and the army to Port Elizabeth’s gang-ridden Northern Areas to bring safety to our communities crying out for help.
Sadly, there will be no safe Easter for the people of PE’s Northern Areas and the ANC will have more blood on its hands.
This desperate community has been begging for assistance in their fight against gangsterism and crime, which has fallen on deaf ears in the ANC government.
Instead Minister Nhleko has done an about-turn on previous commitments like the ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay, joining to the list of endless broken promises.
Violent crime and gangsterism will continue unabated in the Northern Areas because the ANC doesn’t care enough to deliver on its promises.
The ANC has now added the broken promise of army intervention to the broken promise of a functioning Metro Police, the broken promise of bolstered SAPS resources, broken promises of housing, refuse collection, water, electricity and jobs.
The gangsterism crisis in PE’s Northern Areas needs rapid intervention and political will, both of which will not materialise under an ANC government.
The hard work of the Metro Police in the City of Cape Town has brought the murder rate down in the Cape Flats as a result of around 1000 gang-related arrests made every month.
This should be the story of Nelson Mandela Bay.
The DA is determined to win Nelson Mandela Bay at this year’s municipal election to usher in government, set on building a safe city, protected by an effective metro police service.
