From the 25th to the 27th of October in East London, the inaugural Legends Heritage Jazz Meets Turnup Festival will be bringing together the beautiful people of the Eastern Cape, fellow South Africans, and the rest of the world to enjoy music, culture, and gourmet food under the beautiful Eastern Cape skyline and landscape.
Promoting the Wild Coast as the eco-tourism destination of choice in South Africa, the Legends Heritage Weekend will consist of a number of separate events culminating in jazz festival at Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium on Saturday the 27th of October.
In addition to the official jazz festival, lovers of hip-hop and house music will also be catered to with a Turnup festival also taking place at the Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium on the same day adjacent to the main stage.
The official jazz festival will see the province’s best jazz artists sharing the stage with some of the provinces and country’s greatest artists of our time.In addition to the official jazz festival, an evening of free jazz will also be held on the 25th of October at Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium to serve as a taster for the main event.
Organisers of the event, Nicolene Jordan, founder of Jordan Media, and founding CEO of Real Spaces Luxury Marketing, Thulani Mbana, says the Legends Heritage Weekend looks to shine a new light on the Eastern Cape.
“Having been born and raised in the Eastern Cape, I have always known that this part of our country has not only been incredibly important to our country’s history, but still has so much potential. However, one cannot deny that the Eastern Cape has its challenges. As many others have had to do, in 2002 I left the Eastern Cape to progress in my career. Living in Cape Town, I came to realise that outside of the province, opinions about my home were not that positive,” Mbana notes.
Continuing on her feelings of how the Eastern Cape is viewed outside the province, Mbana continues, “From celebrating former presidents Mandela and Mbeki, and recognising the Eastern Cape as the birthplace of struggle icons like O.R. Tambo and Steve Biko the historic contribution the Eastern Cape has made to South Africa is recognised. However, very few people realise just how much the Eastern Cape continues to give to the country. From politics, business to the arts, some of South Africa’s most celebrated names call iMpuma-Koloni, die Oos Kaap home.”
According to Jordan, this festival will look to be a celebration of this fact, and asks all South Africans to #AnswerTheCall and celebrate all things Eastern Cape. “Our gorgeous adventure province has something for everyone all year long, and not just in the December holiday season. Tickets for the event are available at TicketPros.co.za from 25 September with prices ranging between R300 and R1500 for access to the official jazz festival.
The festival will also be preceded by a series of glamorous VIP events such as the Legends Heritage Celebratory Awards Gala Dinner on Friday the 26th of October, which are by invite only only. However, a limited number of tickets will also be available at prices ranging from R2500-R4500 per couple.
