Liverpool-born saxophonist, Andrew Young and his band will pay tribute to the famous “Sons of Liverpool” – The Beatles – in his Port Elizabeth Show on Friday 19 October treating fans to a stellar performance.
I last saw Young play at the 2011 Concert in the Park which was held in Victoria Park, the audience hush at his prowess was palpable.
Young has performed around the world: from South America to Europe, from the Caribbean to the Far East and the Peoples Republic of China (where he is hailed as “The Prince of Saxophone”), as well as right here in South Africa – playing with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Kwazulu-Natala and East Cape Philharmonic Orchestras (at the 2011 “Concert in the Park-Victoria Park) and at Starlight Classics in Johannesburg, in March this year.
Andrew Young had to choose, at a young age, between football or music and, although he chose the latter he is an avid Liverpool Fan and has performed their anthem; “You Never Walk Alone”, on several occasions!
An invitation to perform in South Africa prompted an engulfing wave of success with the Kwazulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and the newly formed 5 piece Jazz/Funk/Fusion Band “Let It Flow.” As a result Young became involved in the crosscurrents of South African, meeting and being invited to perform with artists such as Joseph Shabalala (Ladysmith Black Mambazo) and Jonathan Butler.
Tickets are available at Computicket at R150 each to see and listen to world acclaimed Saxophonist, Andrew Young at a one night only performance at The Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheatre, on Friday 19 October at 7:30pm.
