And the Dog Hung From a Long Lead

2 March 2011 By Alan Straton

Animal Anti Cruelty Leagues Linda Louise Swain writes:

Sunday 27 February will be a day to be remembered by all those who took the trip to the Blaauwkrantz Bridge to support the three ladies who jumped in aid of AACL.  Everyone gathered at the King’s Beach carpark at 9a.m. and it was a happy bunch who were given a kombi- to- kombi challenge of coming up with a “war-cry”  along the lines of  a Village People renditon of “AACL, we’re rooting for the AACL” type by the time we got there!  Only Patsy rose to the occasion, with the others confessing that they had all nodded off on the trip!

Once there, it was all systems go.  The dogsuit was not to be, as it caused havoc with the harness, so dog-ear headgear it was for Yvonne, a bikini for Candice and regular clothes for Lynn.  Our banner, sporting the words “We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves:  Animal Anti-Cruelty League” was strategically place on the bridge and then it was time to decide who would be on the bridge and who would be at the lookout point – major decisions on a very laid-back day for the rest of us!   Once harnessed, it was time to take the bridge walk.

Lynn was up first and was somewhat reluctant at the edge, but with a nudge and encouragement, she launched into thin air.  The adrenalin, the anticipation and the pure fear saw her dangling unconscious, but fortunately as the man who hauls them up  reached her, she started to come around.   Now that is real dedication to the animal-cause.  Would she do it again?  “Never!”.  For Yvonne it was, “definitely”, despite the bruised ankles and for Candice it was “oh yes, but never in a bikini again!” – her bruising being somewhat higher up the leg!  So, all in all, these dedicated ladies had proved a point and held up their side of the bargain for the animals.  Our huge thanks, respect and admiration, ladies.  As Nelson Mandela said – “it always seems impossible, until it is done” and you certainly did it!

Now that they have “been there and done that”, you can still give them a thumbs up by donating to the cause, as this one is tied in to our Golf Day on 17 March, which is very kindly being organised by Lynn and her husband, Mark.  Please support this Golf Day – it will be loads of fun with a prize-giving spitbraai and sporting memorabilia auction to boot!   You can also just attend the spitbraai/prize-giving/auction – which should be a lot of fun.  So do get a gang together and join us!    For more Information on the Golf Day, please contact Lynn on:  0766255355.  We still are hoping for more company groups to get involved, sponsorship of prizes, etc., with all funds going to Animal Anti-Cruelty League.

And our next weekend is plotted out – Alicedale spayathon!  All hands on deck welcome!  Onward and upward for our four-leggeds.

Kind regards and thanks

Linda-Louise
